Phoronix: Talking Radeon GLSL From X@FOSDEM 2010

Last week we provided an update as to our X@FOSDEM 2010 video status. Well, it's still taken some time to get these recordings out there that were taken earlier this month in Brussels, Belgium...

Why not just offer the Videos as Torrent files?

      That would be too simple

If a reliable seed is needed for video torrents, I can provide a machine that is always on and has decent bandwidth.

I will also seed, of course. Please Michael, just release a torrent. Or tell us about the reasons at least.

Or/And follow the suggestions on http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showt...958#post111759

As you can see there are many sites which allow to upload big files, so your arguments are not valid.

And (as this is a linux site) please use free codecs. Like two years ago. For browsers without Ogg Theora support you can use the (new version!) java ogg-theora plugin. http://www.theora.org/cortado/
Why do you first announce the videos and then tell us that they are not important? I was looking forward to it. I can't understand you

the audience questions were barely audible and the Q&A at the end is missing entirely.

Otherwise it's an interesting overview of the details and hidden complexities of shader compilers. Unlike x86 assembler, GPUs aren't even meant to be directly programmed by humans, as such the hardware looks pretty much insane from a programmer/compiler's point of view. Wow.

If you want to make the torrents and I can upload the files to that machine, then sure.

                As MP3???

There is a codec called Vorbis that is quite famous in the open source world with superior quality pr size.

Or Speex when you only have voice.

                Or Flac.

Why didn't you use WMV, now that you are using closed source formats?

WMV is much better than MP3.

Putting the files on Bittorrent is a good idea, but i think you should also upload the videos to Youtube as a youtube partner.

http://www.youtube.com/partners - I don't think it should be too hard to become a youtube partner(thats what fosdem did for their videos) and the videos would be available as 720p/1080p.

Or alternatively get in touch with the fosdem guys and see if they'll let you upload the videos to their sever and youtube channel.

                    Transcode please.

                    {crapola audio} --> ascii text.
