ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 M10 with radeon driver free X under Ubuntu Karmic Koala

Hi

Any help would be reatly appreciated, I'm trying to update a laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 M10 and Xorg freeze almost instantly (I can't even login). It works with vesa driver but with an ugly resolution. RADEON driver should work...

Any ideas are welcome.

Do I have to compile a more recent version of driver ?
What can I give you to give you more information ?
