That may have happened in your case, but even I used to own a Radeon RX 560, I opened issues in their repository and got answers all the time. I even managed to get tensorflow working on that GPU

I'm about ready to ditch AMD for Nvidia before the end of the year for supported, well tested, and reliable compute without having to use Windows. If you're a gamer, go for it. But if you want functional consumer grade GPGPU, Nvidia or Intel (maybe), but NOT AMD at this point. I'm fed up.
Have fun! For me, Nvidia is not an option since I need more memory than they offer for a sane price. Oh, and yes, I want proper OSS driver support.

Classic Dump, Pump, Sell and Cash Out.

If that happens Qualcomm has both ARM licenses and owns x86. The big question mark is how they would renegotiate the cross licensing deal between Intel and AMD. That would be worth a years supply of popcorn.
There is.nothing to be happy about. You can use intel CPU on Linux without any issue - arm Qualcomm laptops are different story. You may not like Intel and they did a lot of bad things but at least they are good in terms of compatibility and being opensource. For us users It will be better if all these 3 companies coexist.

AMD deprecating support for older cards in the future isn't actually a problem. Just use the version of ROCm that supports your card. When using Pytorch that can easily be selected in a venv.

AMD owns part of x86 as well. It's a cross-licensing agreement where they both agree to share their parts with each other. I think I read that if either one gets sold, the agreement dissolves meaning neither would be able to produce x86 chips anymore, until a new deal is struck. Which is one big reason to doubt anyone is going to come in and buy them. Sounds like typical rumor-mongering to me. It gets spread because people like to laugh at how far Intel has fallen, not because anyone truly believes it.
