Phoronix: RADV Vulkan Driver Enables EXT_shader_object By Default With Mesa 24.1

It's been a long journey but Valve's Samuel Pitoiset has now enabled VK_EXT_shader_object support by default with Mesa's Radeon Vulkan driver "RADV" for the upcoming Mesa 24.1 release...

    It's for RDNA3 or for RDNA2 too?

Yes. To be more precise, initial support had RDNA3 only with this code (see how radv_shader_object_enabled checks GPU generation) https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/...260c09d391d12e

And current change indicates that this check wasn't there, i.e. it was enabled for all GPUs some time ago: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/...260c09d391d12e

        Can't wait for 24.1 release

The implementation happened quite fast actually given the complexity of the task. Congrats to Samuel Pitoiset

Is this supposed to replace GPL?
Can someone explain what does it do?

In case anyone was wondering, the answer is in fact, NOT in the article. Maybe clicking through links you can find the answer, but that's not in the article.

RADV has support for it on all supported generations
Pretty sure it's in the article.
