AMDVLK 2023.Q1.2 Vulkan Driver Released With Fixes, New Extension

amdvlk probably could be quite decent if it received more love to fit (Linux) gamer needs. But since it's developed and "maintained" like any other AMD software...

Wake me up when they finally add support for VK_EXT_mutable_descriptor_type, VK_EXT_descriptor_buffer and VK_EXT_graphics_pipeline_library. I don't know why AMD takes literal years to support new vulkan features.

This got me thinking that AMDVLK is mostly a Windows focused Vulkan driver designed for Windows Vulkan games. Apart from this, it's also designed for some other niche (probably professional) use cases on both operating systems, especially now that Stadia (which used it) is dead. It kinda makes sense if you realize it receives almost no work that Valve puts into Radv, which is exactly for the Linux gaming use case (like extensions for DXVK, vkd3d, etc). When I last tried it, it performed like ass with DXVK (I remember in one DX9 it performed even worse than wined3d, Wine's own DX9 to OGL translation). It performed on par or sometimes better than Radv in WIndows Vulkan games, especially Doom 2016 and Eternal.
