This bug lasted for a hole year, maybe more(since ubuntu 8.04).I couldn't play the only few old games that I enjoy(counter-stike, starcraft, heroes III) and so i went back to windows.Maybe by 2010 fedora or ubuntu will have galium 3d and all the problems will be fixed(I ended to hope for decent linux video support a while ago).

If linux wants to be a serious competitor to other OSes things will have to be done right, not half way through,(just look at the sound and the audio jungle that is linux).

The hole concept of freedom is good but when you can't watch videos at decent performance, or listen to 2 sound streams Linux can't be called a desktop os.

              for me nothing has changed:
              glxgears
IRQ's not enabled, falling back to busy waits: 0 17
              1816 frames in 5.0 seconds = 363.186 FPS
              1618 frames in 5.0 seconds = 323.470 FPS
              1816 frames in 5.0 seconds = 363.040 FPS
              1835 frames in 5.0 seconds = 366.896 FPS
              1804 frames in 5.0 seconds = 360.609 FPS
              1835 frames in 5.0 seconds = 366.918 FPS
              1858 frames in 5.0 seconds = 371.464 FPS
              1839 frames in 5.0 seconds = 367.703 FPS

i compiled mesa from git clone git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/mesa

              any suggestions ?

You need the radeon-rewrite branch of mesa.

                      it works for me

                      glxgears

IRQ's not enabled, falling back to busy waits: 0 17
Running synchronized to the vertical refresh. The framerate should be
approximately the same as the monitor refresh rate.
                      4619 frames in 5.0 seconds = 923.687 FPS
                      4252 frames in 5.0 seconds = 850.355 FPS
                      4730 frames in 5.0 seconds = 945.797 FPS
                      4703 frames in 5.0 seconds = 940.396 FPS
                      4734 frames in 5.0 seconds = 946.618 FPS
                      4673 frames in 5.0 seconds = 934.412 FPS
