    Phoronix: Open-Source ATI Driver Picks Up A Few Changes

    AMD's Alex Deucher has released the xf86-video-ati 6.12.2 driver this morning, not to be confused with the official Catalyst 9.4 proprietary driver that will come later this month. The open-source ATI driver update has a fair number of changes for this point release...

      Well, "later this month" does not really fit for the Catalyst 9.4 driver release. Terry Makedon, Mgr. Catalyst Product Management, said that it should be released by today, so probably within the next few hours:

      @izual: Even Mesa 7.4 has hit Jaunty nearly before the release candidate, so there is a good chance that it will indeed reach Jaunty.

      @remm: Yeah, hopefully there will be a basic R6xx+ Mesa implementation soon. Probably after Mesa 7.5 is released and 7.6 has its own branch?

      #edit: Catalyst 9.4 on April, the 17th. My bad.

        im loving the progress of this, my 9800XT is happy on my arch box.

        thinking of getting an nvidia though click, ATI GFX fans really suck.

          Actually it will be later this month, 9.4 is out sure - for windows.

          "And last but surely not least, my favorite community: ATI Catalyst? 9.4 for Linux

          We will have support (once the driver is available on or about April 17th) for new operating systems:

          * RHEL 5.3 production support
          * Ubuntu 9.04 early look support"

          Link to the above
