      Yeah, I'm running the drm/radeon modules from the r6xx-r7xx-support branch

        Can one of your geniuses tell me what this means:

        siggma@ubuntu:~$ git checkout -b r6xx-r7xx-support origin/r6xx-r7xx-support
        fatal: Not a git repository

          It means you're not in a git repository. Did you cd into the xf86-video-ati/ directory?

            Duh..
            I don't use git very often.

              I should look at it through ssh then, since my keyboard and mouse will have no effect at all. The only button working is the power button which sends and acpi event and turns down the machine.

              uh no sorry, I always forget about logging

              Code:
              Mar 14 17:19:43 Obi-Wan [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810
              Mar 14 17:19:43 Obi-Wan radeon 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
              Mar 14 17:19:43 Obi-Wan radeon 0000:01:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
              Mar 14 17:19:43 Obi-Wan [drm] Initialized radeon 1.29.0 20080613 on minor 0
              Mar 14 17:25:52 Obi-Wan BIOS EBDA/lowmem at: 0009fc00/0009fc00
              these are the last lines on the kernel log of those sessions.

              despite the dates like 20080613, I used an ebuild with these lines:
              Code:
              EGIT_BRANCH="r6xx-r7xx-support"
              EGIT_REPO_URI="git://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/mesa/drm"
              so is the right branch ;-)

                I'm still a bit suspicious about whether the correct drm bits are running.

                Normally there are a few lines talking about loading microcode and writeback tests immediately after the "initialized drm x.x.x" message.

                  Use the master branch of ati git, and the r6xx-r7xx-support branch of the drm.

                    Anyone know if I should worry if I occasionally get these?:

                    [ 1532.629872] mtrr: no MTRR for d0000000,10000000 found

                    Weird thing is that though I've been told this could be because of a buggy BIOS, I'm getting the same error (and same address range) on two mostly different machines (one's intel Core 2 based, other AMD Athlon X2), but both running 2.6.28 with mtrrr/PAT enabled and this latest driver+rx600-rx700-support drm branch.

                    Only thing I notice is that compositing (using Metacity) is a bit slow (dragging/resizing windows is very jerky), but I don't know if that is normal since I normally don't use it. Also dri and EXA are loaded correctly according to my Xorg log.
