Phoronix: AMD Adds New AMDGPU LLVM Targets For Older GPUs In Cleanup

Seeing new AMDGPU targets added to mainline LLVM for aging Radeon GFX7/GFX8 graphics hardware wasn't what I expected to see this weekend...

I take this a sign that making a profit is starting to pay off for AMD.

What work is left to do before being able to make AMDGPU the default kernel driver for GCN 1.1 ?

IMHO it was pretty obvious that this plumbing was coming , ... ;-)

Nice to see that they optimize their stack, even if it is fixing oversights which could have been caught before.

It would be nice if it supported VGA as a valid output on Bonaire, Kabini, Kaveri and Mullins

I think some of the older DAL2 code had some support for these encoders. You could use that or the non-DC code as reference. Old DAL2 code for reference:

LVDS has been done, VGA remains.

It doesn't help that the bug is marked 'inactive'. It certainly has not been solved.

I think mainly analog outputs and maybe some restart stuff.
