Does it mean that may be Linux users we are getting full hdcp support for a PC with distros that have enough updated packages?

The start of not excuses for DRM complainers.. like prime amazon or disney

Am I missing something? I stream Prime Video in Chrome on my desktop (Ubuntu 20.04, Ryzen R7 w/ RX580, wayland) almost daily.

Usually the high resolution content is the most protected. Netflix 4K won't play on a PC unless you tick every little security box. It will even fail after some Windows updates until Microsoft and Netflix get their coders back together to update it.

I'm sure other content providers are using similar protected media and CPU features.

yeah, the problem is that you are not getting FHD or HD.. you are getting a 540p playback in prime video
If you don' trust me you can check it by the URL chrome://media-internals there you can view the actual resolution of videos so.. check it please

Netflix streams 720p for some stuff like standup comedy videos, anime, and Shannara Chronicles. Otherwise yeah it's all 540p or lower.

Lol no, that will never happen. This is more for Chrome OS, Android TV, and other Linux based systems that may use AMD CPU and GPU.

For me it was never this way, all would be 1080p with the addon, now there is no way...

And netflix tells in them website that firefox and chrome have 720p playback so... ejem ejem.

And that films were testing in safari with mac os too and the playback was 1080p so..

Why HDCP can't be used like in windows on usual PC's?
Give me a reason. The only difference betwin windows and Linux based distros are the people using it, but both of them have "ways to" break the drm and other stuf.. and the difference from android likes are many so... why windows have hdcp and linux distros using an modern intel or amd can't use it?

on the other hand, with manjaro and since the kernel 5.6 if I put in the terminal xrandr --verbose you have that output:

It tells that there is support for the screens hdcp 1.4 and 2.2 so.. the limit are the userspace component that have to be built-in chromium and firefox
