Phoronix: AMDVLK 2019.Q4.1 Vulkan Driver Brings Performance Tuning, Reworked Pipeline Cache

AMD has been off their weekly release regiment for their open-source AMDVLK Vulkan driver but this morning they issued their first new release in just about one month...

AMD and Vulkan doesn't seem to be in a useable state.

I wanted to help hanatos with vkdt (darktable raw processing in exremely fast), however libvulkan_radeon.so fails badly.

So I've compiled amdvlk. vulkaninfo loads it and displays the info but if libvulkan tries to init the device it segfaults.

      Code:
[qvk] validation layer: terminator_CreateDevice: Failed in ICD /usr/lib64/amdvlk64.so vkCreateDevicecall
[qvk] validation layer: vkCreateDevice: Failed to create device chain.
      [qvk] error -8 executing vkCreateDevice(qvk.physical_device, &dev_create_info, NULL, &qvk.device)!
      Segmentation fault (core dumped)
      UPDATE:

      amdvlk doesn't support VK_KHR_SWAPCHAIN_EXTENSION_NAME that's the issue.

I built that last night and it still doesn't completely solve a problem I'm having with Shadow of the Tomb Raider. With Q3.6 I noticed some corruption of clouds in the sky, mist, waterfalls etc. Going back to Q3.5 made it normal again. I do get better performance with AMDVLK vs. RADV for the vulkan back end in that game.

With last night's build, the corruption is much less, but mist still doesn't look quite right. I don't care, I'm probably not going to play that game again until the Linux port is released anyway, which will probably like RADV. I'm thinking I'm going to re-buy it from Feral, just because I love and appreciate them.

Everything else I use AMDVLK for seems good, including the 32 bit that I use with D9VK for Fallout 3 (GoG version, through Lutris with Proton 4.11 linked from my Steam directory and environment variables set). I had water rendering problems with Q3.5 which were corrected with Q3.6 and still render correctly. Super smooth performance (except for sometimes CPU intensive NPCs if there are a lot of them but that's got nothing to do with the rendering back end)
