    Usually this late into a current Linux kernel development cycle the DRM graphics driver fixes don't tend to be too notable, but that's certainly not the case with today's batch of AMDGPU and TTM fixes sent off to the DRM tree...

      Yeah, even APUs could drive 4x4K@60Hz, although on embedded or wherever are enough connectors

        I don't like 4K displays.

          The paper-like high resolution text is amazing and very comfortable.

            4k is OK - but after working nearly 4 years with such a screen I hope 8k screens become available soon.
            As my material sometimes has 8k quality, 4k is so 1990-ies (i.e. working with a resolution far beyond the actual resolution of the material).

            I assume 2x rotated 4k (portrait mode) won't come near, but this seems to be well supported right now even by chipset graphics/APUs,
            so in case 8k won't appear next year that woul be an option for me ...
            Is this curently used under Linux without problems?

            Are there pieces of information if 8k (attached via a single cable with DP1.4+) would directly work under Linux if screens would be available?
            Especially DisplayPort Forward Error Correction necessary for 5k+ was added by Intel just for 4.21 ... what about AMD?
            Is any other possible show stopper known (... with 4k it was mostly lack of DPI support by DEs and GUIs - as far as I was concerned) ...

            Just wondering why information is so scarce about future resolutions ...

              That may be true for the rod cells (which work well in darkness), but not for cone cells. Plus the cells aren't arranged in a perfect square matrix (like displays) but rather concentrated in the center, with much less cells in the outer radius.
