With multi-monitor, compositing disabled isn't always desirable :\ at least with kwin it can give a subpar experience for me. Maybe on Wayland it can selectively toggle compositing per monitor output?

Can compositors still have explicit control over it? I could see some use in querying the Max/min refresh rate, then choose an optimal one. Maybe also control per-monitor VRR.
This would also be useful for video playback, which is rarely 60Fps.

Of course, the blacklist can be edited later, and such controls exposed afterwards, the most important is squaring the rest away.

I belive this is only valid for Nvidia, Intel has already rudementary support in windows, and I assume will also do so in linux, when time permits. They have also stated that the discreet GPUs will have full adaptiv sync support upon release.

          Kind regards

This is wonderful news and I have to soften my comment from yesterday.

I think it doesn't, as I had to create a kwin rule to force kwin to disable compositing for WINE apps. Native games usually do that.

So WINE doesn't tell to disable compositing, but maybe Mutter does for all fullscreen / windowed fullscreen apps anyway.

Does this update finally include Freesync 2? Since the basic Freesync is missing low framerate compensation, it is not even worth considering as an option.

The difference between Freesync and Freesync 2 isn't in software. Freesync 2 is simply an extended specification which puts stricter requirements on monitors that want to be certified. Low Framerate Compensation works on any Freesync monitor where the highest refresh rate is >2.5x the lowest refresh rate. This includes all Freesync 2 monitors, and some Freesync (not 2) monitors.

The real question is, does these patches implement Low Framerate Compensation? On Windows, it was only implemented one year after Freesync initially rolled out.

I hope Nouveau can implement this as well. That would sure stir up some fun headlines in mainstream tech media while also being a big middle finger towards Nvidia. I see no technical reason why this cannot be done.
