Was too busy finishing up the AMDVLK article prep to find a better x86 old representative pic :P

      Don't worry. It's alright.

They might end-up moving to 64bits, yes.
But don't hold to much hope of them moving yet again to another third architecture after x86/ia32 and x86-64/amd64.
With them only being able to do 2 of everything.

AMD: ...and it subtly points out that meanwhile, AMD's official driver is the opensource one, and it's still possible for 32bits distributions to compile it. (Same with Intel, BTW)

Not without 32bit libraries. A 64bit kernel can operate 32bit libraries but they will still need to exist (arch linux's multilib for example).

So in other words this is more about killing off 32bit kernel driver than anything else, right? That sounds sensible, one less platform without stable ABI to support

Or will mark the end of Steam Linux project. While the ecosystem improvements provided or financed by Valve were more than welcomed, their Linux backup plan never took off. At the end the game experience wasn't the same as in Windows. Even Macs with their higher market share are a distant 2nd citizen.

How would this possibly be able to affect Steam in the slightest?

again the same story, I doubt there is a lot of people with new nvidia cards using a 32 bits system OS. the multilib will continue to be supported. ppl with old cards and only 32 bit pc will use older driver like today.

They're still going to provide support for newer kernels/X for longer than that though, correct? Even the 340 series is supported until end of 2019.

Looks like R390 Drivers going to be a big one, its been in news for some weeks now with developer working on a work around for the Memory Allocation bug. This Year does seem to be the beginning of the end to 32 bit , won't be surprise if windows too drop 32 bit support in the next version
