Setting/Forcing Performance Level to "Low"

Hi guys,


is there a reliable and easy (non hardware-destructive) way to force the card to the lowest performance state ?

the card (GTX 760 Phantom) is producing quite some heat, even during normal desktop operation with kwin and compositing

so I'd like to try to force it to lowest performance state, which should be enough - at least with nouveau it is
