NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Linux Benchmarks: Stay Tuned

Phoronix: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Linux Benchmarks: Stay Tuned

Following the unboxing embargo earlier this week for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090, today the review embargo lifts for the GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition...

hmm i always thought (maybe incorrectly) that nvidia was quick to support new cards, this is a bit of a surprise.

Does it have any fully automated benchmark mode?

Absolutely not, it's extremely hard to benchmark! :-)

What a useless launch. Spoiler alert tho:

"In summary, the RTX 5090 is 25% more expensive than the RTX 4090, delivers an average of 27% more performance, includes 33% more VRAM, and consumes around 30% more power."

They do. As Michael said, retail availability doesn't start until January 30th. Despite the challenges with their proprietary driver, they've actually had better launch day Linux support than both AMD and Intel in recent years. And you can use them on distros without a brand new kernel or Mesa.

You did benchmarks on stock Intel 285K?, even 4090 is bottlenecked by it... Not sure how we can chew these results if it so.

That's a bit disingenuous. You know why that's the case, it's because it's easier to backport Mesa and upgrade the kernel than it is to get the driver running on top of an old kernel with a different unstable ABI. It's still doable though if the vendor wants to support multiple kernels and play a backporting game, DKMS is a thing.

Why not just use the Nouveau driver?

Linux zealots are always telling us how open source is better and how great the Nouveau is, why not use that driver?

Oh that's right, because Nouveau sucks and there's no way that you can use it with the RTX 5090.
