NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Arrives For Linux Testing

Phoronix: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Arrives For Linux Testing

Earlier this month at CES was the announcement of the GeForce RTX 50 "Blackwell" series. Among the first of these consumer Blackwell GPUs is the GeForce RTX 5090 flagship graphics card that is set to retail for $1999 USD. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founder's Edition graphics card arrived at Phoronix a few days ago to begin Linux testing.

Tbh, it's the 5070 I'm interested in, or 5060Ti, depending on where performance lands. I have almost zero interest in 5090, but even a 5090 review can give me a glimpse of how the others may perform.

I am unreasonably excited about this! This thing is basically the nerd version of the Koenigsegg Jesko... very low probability of ever owning one, but probably the current pinnacle of engineering in its field.

Cant wait to see what its performance is! Any chance of some sort of ML model training being run on it?

Nice to see sustainable cardboard packaging. With all the criticism that NVIDIA rightly deserves for other things, at least they're getting this part right. 👍🏽

If I get one of these, I can dispose of my heating system...
But indeed, I'll be interested to see how it performs.
          Linuxer since the early beginnings...

The GeForce 50 series is solely for two camps:
            • xx90 lovers who will see a decent performance boost at the expense of a much higher power consumption and the need for a much beefier PSU
            • Owners of GeForce 30 series cards or earlier
GeForce 40 owners need not apply. This generation is sadly a waste of money. I'm not a big believer in DLSS 4 FG. It still needs a very decent base FPS (45 and higher) to be usable and at that point you may as well game at the base FPS because your latency will not improve with FG.

AMD fans/Linux fans in general? They hate NVIDIA in principle, so I won't even mention them.

Yeah, massive kudos to them for not polluting the environment with even more plastic.

4090 was officially rated at 450W, while this at 575W, that's only 28% increase, while according to NVIDIA's claims (though take it with a grain of salt obviously) it's 2x the performance. Sounds to me like it's much more efficient to use it than a 4090.

The thing that pisses me off is the 32GB VRAM. I was expecting at least 64GB. WTF Nvidia? Age of AI and you still drag your feet with VRAM on your flagships.

The more GPUs you have the more you save.
So it must be 2 in testing minimum

Also interesting how much money they generates.

It will be nice to see package from wegan skin. To be green and such.

It's expected to be just 33% faster on average. That's one of the worst uplifts in power efficiency in the last two decades.

For RTX 50 NVIDIA uses almost the same TSMC node as they did with the GeForce 40 series.
