Phoronix: NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Generation vs. Radeon PRO Performance On Ubuntu Linux 24.04 LTS

For those wondering about the performance of the NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Generation workstation performance on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS with the up-to-date NVIDIA Linux graphics drivers now relying on the open-source kernel modules, this article is for you in looking at the performance of this high-end workstation graphics card on the up-to-date Linux software stack. The NVIDIA RTX 6000 Ada Generation is tested alongside the RTX 2000 / 4000 Ada Generation graphics cards and also the AMD Radeon PRO W7000 series competition atop Ubuntu 24.04 LTS.

Welp, I officially feel good about today

Ordered one of these in a new server to run AI workloads. Yes, it cost an arm and a leg... but so does a Ferrari ... and to be honest this will generate much more revenue then owning a Ferrari ever will!

I have looked longingly at AMD to provide any sort of competition in the GPGPU space but alas they are still quite a ways behind... it took them decades to become competitive and eventually become a threat to Intel, maybe they can eventually do the same in the GPGPU space.

Depends on the model and how much you drive it. One of the reasons wealthy people buy such cars and never drive them is because they're basically investments that you can actually use if you really felt like it.
Regardless, I get what you're trying to say.

As some of the graphs show, there is real potential there. As I always say, their hardware is pretty damn good but it doesn't matter how good it is if the software stack sucks. Having said that, I don't think you made a poor choice.

RTX 6000 Ada is the most beautiful GPU ever made. It's a shame GeForce series doesn't have a shell like this, each one is designed to satisfy RGB hippies.

Can you upload those graphs? I would really like to see that! I have been watching AMD and ROCm for years begging them to at least show up in the building if not at the table!

What is always missing is standard RTX4090 and 7900XTX to show where performance drops for them.

Drops? Generally in most of these tests it will behigher on 7900XTX due to higher clocks and higher ram bandwidth, the engineering cards are slower and have ECC vram enabled.

Not so sure about that, depending on the Ferrari you buy there's a good chance it will appreciate in value significantly.

It's crazy just how much faster NVIDIA's cards are, which just proves what i have said numerous times, AMD has no interest in releasing a truly competitive GPU solution.

yes, but also those cards have optimized drivers for certain software. For example in Siemens NX Nvidia geforce is 1/16 or 1/32th of performance around of professional counterpart
