I might agree, but that's not the case. My previous Intel+NVIDIA laptop worked well under Windows, and with Bumblebee it also did under Linux.

birdie this is why your reputation here is at floor level.
I don't care about my "reputation" on Phoronix forums. I'm well known outside of them and my track record is superb. Here we have people obsessed with freedom no matter the cost or logic. I've dealt with laptops with discrete GPUs under Windows - and they have all sucked terribly. Linux on laptops sucks even more however no matter whether your GPU is built-in or discrete. I have a seven years old laptop which has mostly Intel components, no discrete graphics, I filed certain back then and half of them are still not resolved to this date. Laptop OEMs with a rare exception do nothing to verify Linux works on their products. Linux friendly laptops, e.g. from System76, are available to purchase only in the US if I'm not mistaken and also they cost quite a lot more than Windows laptops even with Windows preinstalled which is simply heresy.

And verifying Linux works flawlessly on a laptop before buying it is near impossible unless you find a person who happens to own it and runs the same OS. Windows on the other hand goes through a ton of QC/QA and testing to make sure everything works as expected and even then lots of laptops have various unpleasant quirks.

Nothing that I said was unpleasant or bad, I was factual as hell. If you don't like it and believe it's a reason to ... hate/despise me, please go check with a psychologist.

Unlike rampant open source lovers here I remain factual and rational. I occasionally make mistakes but then I apologize for that.

Open Source fans on the other hand never admit anything and attack me even more, e.g. |Mr. Myownfriend who lied about libweston.so being shared between Wayland compositors, and then when I called him out for that, he started talking about something else. Open Source lovers never fail to disappoint.

Even you admitted I was right but then turned it upside out and told me I'd be disliked. Wow.

You here this, people? Birdie thinks he's speaking facts lmao

      What a terrible insult /s

Also I have an Nvidia card, I'm running the proprietary driver, and I've criticized and defended them. I've also shat on Gimp while praising Photoshop.

Being open source good. It doesn't always mean that anything that's open-source is immediately better than a proprietary solution, but the being anti-open source is probably one of the dumbest hardline takes to have lol

I said it was a shared library. That means it can be shared by multiple things. Your dumb ass said that libweston isn't really a shared library because it needs to be compiled into the project. When I showed you that it wasn't, you changed your own understanding of what a shared library is because your ego wouldn't let you admit that you're wrong. You're been corrected hundreds of times on these forums and every thread you restart the argument because you know that the last time someone made you look dumb is far away in another topic.

      My exact quote

If someone wants to make a compositor with libweston, they have the ability to because it is a shared library. You know what else is a shared library? Mutter. The only large DE that's using it right now is Gnome but libmutter can be used by others. Same thing with Kwin. That's why XFCE listed libmutter, libweston, wlroots, and kwin as considerations when deciding on what compositor they might adopt. You've seen the link a bunch of times before and you've posted it yourself but here you go. https://wiki.xfce.org/releng/wayland_roadmap

It's like anything you know about how an operating system works is focused around X11. Its like the only thing about Linux that you ever liked was X11. It's sad.

libweston has been used in embedded use cases:
      https://www.collabora.com/news-and-b...ade-linux.html
      https://elinux.org/images/9/93/The-M...engutronix.pdf
That last part that talks about libweston being used in automotive and embedded use cases was told to you multiple times and you ignored it multiple times.

Same link as before just a little farther down.

      https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/weston

Do you know what the ".so" at the end of "libweston-1.so" means?
Btw, I'll say what .so means aloud. Shared object.

That was the last post I made in that topic. Where did I change the subject? lol

Nobody has to take my word for it either because the topic is here for others to see lol

      https://www.phoronix.com/forums/foru...wayland/page22

and his response to me saying that a shared object is something that can be used by multiple applications was this frothing post.

I'm not interested in dealing with people who interpret everything however they see fit. You started with a shared library, now you've swiftly backpedaled just to find a new excuse. God, this is so lame and pathetic. I've caught you red-handed for fuck's sake and instead of admitting it and apologizing you insulted me once again: "You're a slow learner".

Get lost. I won't read any of your insults or poor convoluted pseudo-arguments any longer. Enough with this crap.
Just a quick note on that last line. This was last night and he's arguing with me again lol

But let's look up what a shared object is. Shall we?

      https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19120-01...ct%20is%20an,b y%20more%20than%20one%20application.

A shared object is an indivisible unit that is generated from one or more relocatable objects. Shared objects can be bound with dynamic executables to form a runable process. As their name implies, shared objects can be shared by more than one application.
Artem S. Tashkinov. Used Linux for 25 years. Says he understands Linux more than most. Can't wrap his head around what a shared library is.

I didn't say you would be disliked. I said you are disliked and will continue to be disliked in the future. I also said that your ego makes you think that your uninformed ranting and raving is going to lead to some mass epiphany among devs that know more than you. Keep crying :-)

Agreed, on windows they are even worse, AMD Catalyst is an absolute disaster. But that's not an "on the other hand" for those who know better than to use windows, or AMD gpus. In a thread on an article about the latest and greatest nvidia gpu driver for linux. Pretty much everything apart from games made by EA work better on Linux than on Windows, that is why Microsoft are so desperate to get people to adopt WSL.

Microsoft Office works better on MacOS than windows. "not the place".

You really need to attend a shrink myownfoe, sorry, Myownfriend There's so much gall in you I'm afraid you'll blow up from it.

And I perfectly understand what a shared library is, I even proved it to you yet you continue to deliver CRAP. Your whole post makes you look like a vengeful pity tiny dog who shit his matting, then when he was caught doing that he put shit on itself and started barking.

birdie At times you make some excellent points. However, if you don't care about your tone and you've been told repeatedly your tone is annoying, why do you even bother? People won't read what you post. Or they're just read it and then comment on the tone, not on the subject.

The 500 series drivers broke 120hz for me both in windows and linux, this update did not fix it either, I have to downgrade to 495 again, I don't like being stuck at 60hz.

That's unfortunate but how precisely they are broken? Running 144Hz with FreeSync here and I've got no issues both under Windows and Linux.

Have you read the messages by myownfriend directed at me? Mine were factual and neutral, he insulted me at every turn, called me names, etc. etc. etc. Amazing you haven't said a thing to him. And could you consider checking the previous 50 or so messages that I've posted? None of them have anything with a bad tone or manners - yet, you ignored everything and paid attention only to this one.

Ouch.... You aren't crazy, you are very good at making "ego wouldn't let you admit that you're wrong" skirm like a six year old that just sat on an ants nest. funniest read I've had in a while.

Really? is there any "not open source fans" left in business at this point? Even Microsoft has abandoned any pretence that you can build a business these days running closed source code on open hardware made and/or owned by other people. Windows is all but abandonware, Office is now marketed all in the cloud.

He's not gonna lol This is where he'll get quiet so the thread will die down. Then he'll try to start things again in another topic and makes claims in hopes that nobody will link to or be aware of what he said in this topic. That's his thing: instigate, annoy, flee, repeat in another topic.

                      Here.

Actually please do follow all their posts in the topic. It's an amazing study of how people can subvert everything known in the software industry just to fit their agenda. First, loudly claiming that libweston.so is a shared library, then finding horrible lame excuses why it's not and changing the topic in the process. It's cringeworthy really. And then of course insulting me in every other message when I simply prove they are lying and libweston.so is not a shared library among Wayland compositors. Liar, liar, liar.
