Some of the bugs I've helped resolve in the kernel are critical and I spent hours debugging the kernel. I'm very honest to my self by using primarily Windows with Nvidia. Linux is just for fun to see things grow. Maybe one far day it will be acceptable also with Nvidia on Wayland. But maybe not.
Btw. Firefox will drop its GLX backend at some point and Nvidia Xorg users will have to use a synthetic timer instead of hardware vsync because mixed GLX vsync inside EGL just crashes with Nvidia. Have fun with things like this in the foreseeable future for your great Nvidia Xorg experience!

Except this is not 100 percent true.
2012 Linus Torvalds giving Nvidia the middle finger. Lets take a close look at that time frame.
You had Nvidia laptop addon cards that if you sat in bios or booted into any other OS other than windows would basically be clocked at their lowest yet pulling max power draw so acting like a huge dummy load until they fried and when they fried they could also take your complete laptop main-board with them. This is quite a big middle finger to end users by Nvidia. Of course this was not helped by ODM/OEM vendors putting X module laptops on the Linux Compadiblity lists at the time without a note do not add optional Nvidia card.

Then remember Linus Torvalds is dealing with major data processors. How is even today Nvidia giving those people quite a major middle finger. You want to adjust a Nvidia card clock and power draw under Linux or Freebsd guess what you have to have a X11 server running. Yes you change the Nvidia card/device power/clock speed with the X11 server running shut down X11 server and the Nvidia card/device returns to defaults. Yes this is really stupid from Nvidia they added the means to run headless CUDA (so not needing a X11 server) but you cannot control the Nvidia cards performance headless.

Then Nvidia was using functions in the Linux kernel that they had not paid patent license to use. Yes there are quite a few patents that are licensed to the Linux kernel as GPLv2 code only so to use those section with a closed source binary blob like nvidia you are meant to go those companies who owns those patents and negotiate patent license.

So Nvidia was effectively giving many different groups of the Linux world the middle finger. Some of those groups Nvidia still is even that those users are paying Nvidia a fortune.

birdie you have come in with a bias. Like your claim that it will cost Nvidia to write documentation this true but that ignores the other side that Nvidia will lose out in particular sales because they don't write the documentation. AMD and Intel find they make more sales writing the documentation so the cost of making the documentation is not a cost to them but means to make profit.

Also you come in with lots of incorrect presumes. Like the idea that a Laptop with Nvidia GPU was never marketed at Linux compatible for laptops the reality is by mistake quite a few were. Error do happen here. This also miss that if you made that mistake of buying one of those laptops in 2012 with Nvidia inside you start running Linux and the complete thing could fry out because of Nvidia GPU dummy load/mass heat generation behavour. Yes 2012 dual boot person wanted the Nvidia GPU for when they were in windows and were not expect that Nvidia GPU to be a system killer just because you sat in bios or booted into Linux.

There is a difference between not supporting a OS and being configured like some of the Nvidia GPU cards for laptops from 2009-2014 that are machine killers because you are not using a supported OS. Yes that does explain why some Linux people in that time frame were getting really upset.

Yes a lot of data processors server operators over the years have attempted to fund the open source Nvidia graphics driver not for desktop usage but so that in their server farms they don't have to run X11 x.org server. These are parties buying your most expensive Nvidia cards in high volumes that Nvidia had been screwing over.

birdie you have a big mistake to think Nvidia has only been screwing over Linux desktop users. Nvidia has been screwing over large Linux server operators as well with their driver defects. Lack of decent competition is about the only thing that has let Nvidia get away with this.

I use NVIDIA with a composited WM and I never had any issues. No Tearing, no "slowness" when dragging, everything is butter smooth at 60 fps.

Which is why I find this beyond funny and cringe at the same time. I don't know what the fuck are you guys doing, but you're clearly doing something wrong, or using some shit settings.

The truth is that NVidia drivers work for people 99.9% of the time.

The AMD and Intel drivers also work for people 99.9% of the time.

It shouldn't be shocking to anyone that if you ask if anyone else has ever had problems on the internet, you'll get a bunch of responses from people complaining about it, because the one time things break people tend to get pissed off and they'll remember that for a long time.

Nvidia should backport the GBM support to the legacy driver. They owe it to their clients. It shouldn't be much effort.

Funny thing is, he always claims that ON WINDOWS AMD drivers have lots of issues, and when i tell him that i have used plenty of AMD/Ati hardware on Windows since Windows XP and never had any serious issues, he claims i am lying.... So apparently only his own experience/perception matters, the rest are all liars....

The only thing that would make me believe he is not an nvidia shill at this point, is that he is doing it in a very stupid/immature way.

Any expected timeframe until it gets into the graphics-drivers PPA? I tried the -run version but always fails to build the kernel modules (using Xanmod kernel).
