Honestly we should all be thanking Trump right now for his aggressive handling of the coronovirus situation. His temporary block on anyone who has visited China in the previous 2 weeks is the primary reason why we don't have significant coronavirus in the US. Contrast this with Obama's bungling of the 2009 swine flu pandemic, where he did nothing until 6 months into it, and by then it was too late, with 20,000+ infected and 500+ deaths in the US.

The company pushing hardest for ray-based, 3D illumination technology is shying away from a conference because of... a corona

If you wait for coronavirus to rake in more dead than flu you have lost control of it (just as we don't have that much control over flu), and that's kind of bad for an unknown and potentially much more lethal version of the flu.

                That's temporary at best.
Most of the US cases now are caused by people that came from other affected countries (Italy, Iran and others) that are not affected by the block.
Or, you know, international airports and airplane users.

Seems like Korea and Italy should be added to the prior-2-week travel block. International airplane travel is how any airborne infectious disease spreads between continents. You would think that the body temperature scanners being used in China today would become standard practice. They're not expensive machines, they're not invasive, they're faster to walk through than a metal detector, there's really no downside to them. We would all be better off if as a matter of policy, any person with a fever is not allowed to board an international flight. Period. It just seems so common sense, not sure why all countries don't adopt this policy and technology.

Not even close to "temporary at best". It was a critical step in slowing the spread, and it was proper leadership on display. The biggest goal in any outbreak is to buy time, anything that slows the spread, to give you time to execute an emergency plan, develop and manufacture vaccines, and distribute testing kits and medical supplies. It's all about buying time.

The "anyone who visited China in prior 2 weeks" ban that Trump put in place is the reason the threat level in the US is still so low, and cases here have not skyrocketed like they have in Europe, Iran, and China. The 2-week China ban was *exactly* what was needed, when it was needed most, and it continues to deliver results as seen on map:
