Last week NVIDIA announced the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER as their newest Turing "SUPER" graphics card coming in at $229+ USD and delivering around 1.5x faster performance than the GeForce GTX 1060. For those wondering about the Linux gaming performance potential for this graphics card, here are our initial tests of this new graphics card using the EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER.

GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER is a strong contender if looking for a Linux-friendly graphics

Software: Did nouveau get reclocking working? If it hasn't I would say it's Linux-ready not Linux-friendly. Not WindowsVM-friendly either (see infamous Nvidia Error 43).

Hardware: Not bad if you compare it with a 1660. Same GPU (TU116-300) but GDDR6 would make a difference. If you don't have $50 extra for a 1660 Ti then this card makes sense, not sure why anyone would buy a card > $200 USD that doesn't have GDDR6 though.

Now Nvidia has twice as much non-RTX GDDR6 cards!

The only caveat is the driver reporting it as just a NVIDIA "Device"

Does the driver handle this itself or use information from lspci? Maybe you just need to run update-pciids or wait for the PCI database to add the GTX1660 Super and then run it.

It's still showing up +1H on my end. Double checked and my settings are on CST.

Why did they release this card when there's 1660ti?

I wish AMD/NVidia/Intel would release a card optimized for performance/watt not only for max performance.
With all these cards flooding the market, someone can at least bring out 1 card to fill that niche...
They can market it as "eco friendly", lol.

The Vega64 might actually do well here when capped at 140W power budget like the miners did.
