    As I reported on the thread linked by GdeR it fails even with kernel 5.1.7. Running the installer with '--no-unified-memory' works around the issue for now.

    It's used for gaming (it's particularly useful for game console emulators and translation libraries such as DXVK). There are GPU-accelerated image processing libraries (like libplacebo, based on libmpv). There is at least one Vulkan X11 window manager. It can be used in Android emulator instances to render the UI (Skia has a Vulkan backend, that should work in Linux too).

    They are going to merge OpenCL into Vulkan in the future as well.
