Any fresh install system of Mint 19 can get this BUG. (SWRAST problem)
Im creating distro based on Mint , 19 for linux user groups from Russia with
special adaptation Wine DXVK 0.80 but i always get fail on first steps after install.
I really hate this libGL error. i waste time from 18 september and really hate it.
If nothing can be done i create video with "easy" installing steam on fresh Linux Mint 19
Maybe i have too bad videocard GTX 1080??????????
I get troubles with
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
How to get error::
1 - I get clean system Mint 19 from official site.
2 - Use PPA for Nvidia official ubuntu driver installs
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa
no one other application installed!
2.5 download steam and get error
Steam needs to install these additional packages:
libgl1-mesa-dri:i386, libgl1-mesa-glx:i386, libc6:i386
[sudo] :
If allowed this Steam done new errors:
GLXCHOOSEVISUAL FAILED
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
[2018-10-08 20:32:29] Startup - updater built Sep 8 2018 19:20:58
glXChooseVisual failed
glXChooseVisual failedMain.cpp (326) : Assertion Failed: Fatal Error: glXChooseVisual failed
Main.cpp (326) : Assertion Failed: Fatal Error: glXChooseVisual failed
I even cant see steam windows!!!
driver-396 still works but 396 is outdated. 410 not found for Mint 19.

3 (optional) - Use PPA for Wine-staging install with this manual (for 19)
new wine is REQUIRES to install DXVK (installing dxvk, gecko, mono can be skipped for testing)
just install wine-staging and wine-compat via Synaptic.
Short version:
Wine works partial , 32bit apps like Unreal Tournament NOT WORKS
DXVK apps like Farcry 5 works.

0009:err:wgl:init_opengl Failed to load libGL: libGL.so.1:
0009:err:wgl:init_opengl OpenGL support is disabled.
Code:
But driver still works (now i use 1060)
user@PC1:~$ glxinfo | grep OpenGL
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce GTX 1060 3GB/PCIe/SSE2
OpenGL core profile version string: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 396.54
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 4.60 NVIDIA
I can even play any 64bit title like Farcry 5 or Final Fantasy.
All works but steam tries download Mesa-i386
If allow steam download it it broke something and you cannot run
any Wine application (EVEN Total commander)
and broke steam-native (linux)
If press CTRL-C to steam recomendation mesa installs all OK.
Full text of problem here (with mint 18.3)
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread....3#post13803083
With mint 18 we have only problem with false recommendations mesa install
if ignore it on Mint 18 image ISO all be works okay.
PS I Use Ryzen 1500.
I waste already 20 days to defeat this and i don't know to do
I use Systemback to rollback system to previous state.
Someone on Nvidia-dev forum tell me
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/t...driver-swrast/
I' suspect you'd have to install the 32bit libs first, then switch back to nvidia opengl:
https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/t...06476/#5206476
But this really don't help fix Linux Mint 19 x64 Mate DE
I really don't know what is defective by default - steam installer or Nvidia driver or this is bug in Linux mint 19.
========
>>swrast = software renderer
I know it (!!) and i hate it.
>> Mesa is the open source graphics stack.
I know it.
>>Make sure your Nvidia drivers are properly installed along with their 32-bit libraries.
If i know what method to do it i don' waste 20 days
I already have INSTALLED Nvidia-396
Installed nvidia-utils-396 (for 32bit apps support i hear recommendations from Arch linux users install them)
You don'see screenshot i added in first post? there all nvidia components installed in system
or your provider block screenshot service?
I don't know why it normally install 10 years
and now it cannot be installed by default? Completely crap.
I retry . This is what installed by tag "Nvidia"
https://pp.userapi.com/c850732/v8507...tudkZ2yJy0.jpg
Driver is correctly installed! but works only 64bit games.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2Ed...oloetrk0h00410
I already prepared to use warhammer to computer.
It's something insane. From 10 years with Linux i don't have this problem.
>>Install Steam from the distro's repos instead
OK I format partition
reinstall 5-th Linux Mint 19 and install it from repo
>>Why? Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu which is based on Debian. Makes no sense to use Mint as the basis of a distro.
Sense is exists for /me . Maybe using wrong word. Repack or Personal image of mint 19.
i need DXVK,mc,systemback, and etc and etc and etc... all updates and kernel 4.18 and PREINSTALLED Nvidia from the box. for home PC's using.
You can call this repack of system.
With mint from 15...until 18.3 it works.
Why not try with 19 ?
