    At the risk of discussing something that I've never used, Popescu Sorin has posted several videos of Mir sessions captured using mirscreencast. For example, see this video demo of Unity8 from a few months ago. Unfortunately, Popescu Sorin recently reported that mirscreencast is currently broken for use with Unity8, and so had to revert to a handheld cam. Hopefully mirscreencast for use with Unity8 will be fixed again soon.

      What about kmsgrab? (this is useless if the Wayland compositor isn't using DRM/KMS though)

        that is what wayland is all about, fragmentation... but even with X we have lots of compositors too, the issue is that writing a wayland compositor is harder than writing a X one.
