Phoronix: Intel's Mesa Driver Now Officially Exposes OpenGL 4.0 For Haswell

With FP64 for Haswell having landed in Mesa Git, the remaining patches have now been placed into Mesa Git as well for finally turning on OpenGL 4.0 for older Intel Haswell HD Graphics 4000 era hardware...

If I read https://mesamatrix.net/ correctly (Intel Gen7 GPU is Haswell) the only thing holding back OpenGL 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, and 4.5 support with Haswell is GL_ARB_vertex_attrib_64bit in OpenGL 4.1.

If I remember correctly there was a huge jump in GPU peformance between Ivy Bridge and Haswell. Iris and Iris Pro introduced with Haswell were the first time the iGPU started to get interesting in my opinion

From https://mesamatrix.net/ It looks like it will be a long time before Ivy Bridge sees OpenGL 4.0 support.

It's not very far off at all. The only thing missing is FP64 support, and the hardware is very similar to Haswell (IVB is gen7, Haswell gen7.5).

IIRC, the main difference is that Haswell has fewer hardware bugs; the FP64 code will need quite a few (more) workarounds for IVB.

        Great!

Now what about the state of Vulkan support on Haswell hardware?

Don't hold your breath unless a lot of people really start working on libSoftFloat...

There's only 1 contributor so far. Anyone interested can find it here: https://github.com/Hopetech/libSoftFloat

This is great news. Hopefully we will be able to say the same soon about proper vulkan support.
