      More interesting would be a hybrid VAAPI driver for HEVC 10 bit, from NEWS file it seems something like that it is in development for VP9, but the repo is empty. It is very annoying that not even Nvidia GM208 chips (GTX 950/960) can decode HEVC Main 10 profile. Maybe i get a sat dish next month to test it, but need a faster cpu most likely - hardware acceleration is not available for Linux yet.

        The hybrid driver is here: https://github.com/01org/intel-hybrid-driver. I did compile it, but as it only supports Broadwell and up I couldn't test it. You need to compile that, then recompile libva-intel-driver with --enable-hybrid-codec

        While something like that for HEVC would be nice (it does exist on Windows, for Haswell even), considering the licensing mess surrounding HEVC, I don't care about it at all.

          Yeah, we should really be pushing out support for unreleased APUs ourselves... like we did for almost all of the APUs so far and just did again for Stoney Ridge.

            What licence issues should be there? There are already opensource encoders and decoders for HEVC Main 10. For Win you also need at least Broadwell.

              Just do a search for "HEVC Advance". Though after their initial insane demands they're now considering adjusting their fees (probably because no one bought into the initial insanity), but the whole situation is still a mess and very uncertain.

              Regarding the Windows hybrid decoder, you're right, Broadwell is needed for 10bit, Haswell can only do 8bit.
