AMD mostly has just been putting out code these days with not as much key documentation as in recent years
Huh ? When did the Sea Islands docco come out if not recently ?

Intel was probably used because LunarG already knows the hardware due to their optimization work.
And the Intel hardware is simpler as AMDs or NVidias, so it was less work.

Well Intel gpus are heavyly used, most common are Ivy Bridge (HD 4000,HD 2500) and Haswell (HD 4400) - they are used more than the first integrated AMD (HD 8800 series) - which is interesting as they are slower on Windows.

Most likely Vulkan can speed things up on Windows as well with the right driver. Well maybe AMD should think about this:

Valve said during their presentation today at GDC2015 that this Intel Linux driver will be open-sourced, but they haven't provided a time-frame for doing so.
          Cue 'Valve Time'

            about 1:12

They want to opensource it once the Vulkan specs are published.
            Anyone have the full presentation?

Yeah, they've been hacking on the Intel driver for quite some time, even before the optimization work.

Although, Vulkan on Intel seems kinda pointless, will be GPU limited anyways.

                Isn't every GPU gpu-limited

Not sure what you are trying to say.

And Valve doesn't make any games anymore.

My guess is most engines which are being currently developed for Linux/Steam OS. This is will include Unity, Unreal 4, Unigine, Source 2 and lots of smaller ones. It is also my understanding that Vulkan is being made to be a better fit for mobile graphics than OpenGL ES was so we might see some action there further down the track.

for your conclusion all apu are pointless, but all intel igpu represents much more maket than amd and nvidia together
