Windows 8.1 Still Outperforms Linux With Latest Intel GPU Drivers

Phoronix: Windows 8.1 Still Outperforms Linux With Latest Intel GPU Drivers

It's been a while since last comparing the performance of the Windows and Linux Intel Haswell OpenGL graphics drivers. Last year when we looked at the Intel "Haswell" HD Graphics 4600 performance the driver speeds under Ubuntu Linux and Windows 8.1 were almost neck-and-neck, but since then it seems the rate of performance optimizations and improvements within the Intel Windows driver has outpaced the open-source Intel Linux graphics driver.

Please, you cant even call this thing test... to compare, you need at least 100-200 games, where as you have only 1 game 100 years old game, one unknown benchmark and one i dont even know how you call that thing...

IMHO it's enough. Apps and games used - are good software to compare drivers. Specifically, benchmarking software is good example for this matter. Just because you feel butt hurt - doesn't make you right. Performance is quite comparable in most tests. I personally wouldn't have issues suggesting Intel based laptops to others. Got ma mom Lenovo laptop, once i sorted her mobile internetz issues, she has never complained.

Agreed, there's no statistically relevant sample size... not even speaking about the used sample quality. Although 100 - 200 games is way overkill.

As written in another article, it's quite amazing how the Windows driver for Intel works to begin with, given the state it's in.

Since startzz is a Windows troll, that's not butt hurt, that's trying to make fun of Linux benchmarks.

But seriously, ya'll linux trolls dont even know how to compare things... You cannot just compare using one thing, its like comparing basketball players only by how much point do they get, do you saw them ? they throw ball like they are blind... So maybe test some real games, like super mario ? trololol....

No wonder linux sucks so much, when such trolls uses such big testing ... one user runs 1 one minute test and calls it "stable", so much for it.

Troll or no troll anyone with any knowlegde of statistics can tell you a test with a very limited amount of different softwarepackages on only one machine is not enough to conclude that os 1 outperforms os 2.

Think about it, a windows troll telling you a test where windows is faster than linux is wrong should at least get a few brainsynaps in motion.

This remark just is ... ehm ... unconstructive. If you would read a little more you would know better. Nasa uses linux, almost every super computer uses linux and you say something like this... Really?

No, he just troll those few unfortunate souls that think one good app (Sanctuary Benchmark) substitute for good comparision benchmark across different OSes.

Well, previous comparision of Win vs Lin on Intel graphics did sport more apps.

So what is quietly cooking up there in the dark corner of Michael dungeon, that take so much time/resources?

Games like openarena, urbanterror or xonotic behave differently and perform differently when something changes (like when I reconnected GPU from x16 to x1 slot). So its rather a must to have a wide range of benchmarks to covet most of those specific cases.
