Phoronix: Intel Arc B580 Graphics Open-Source Driver Linux Gaming Performance

Last week Intel announced the Arc B-Series Battlemage graphics cards as their first Xe2 discrete GPUs. Ahead of the Arc B580 graphics card hitting Internet retailers tomorrow, today the review embargo lifts on the Intel Arc B580. Here is what to expect from the Linux driver support at launch for the Intel Battlemage graphics cards and how the Arc B580 is performing for Linux gaming/graphics workloads.

Looks like good price to performance, but not the slam dunk some people were hoping for

Looks interesting. If they offered a larger version of this with 16 or 24gb memory, I may consider it.

Does this have officially SR-IOV? Also I am confused, are these results based upon the xe or the older i915 driver?

I'm not sure what to think of this. I have an rx 5700xt as a stop gap card and am looking to update at some point.
For gaming purposes I think 12GB is just fine. My son has a 6700xt and it does everything he needs it to do at 1440p.

Xe KMD, Lunarlake and Battlemage are only supported by Xe KMD. Not sure if those SKU supports SR-IOV but Xe KMD has support for it.

              Xe2 uses/requires Xe by default.

If this is the low-end part, it is not so bad and things get a bit more interesting. The previous A cards were completely out of the league, this at least has some throttle

Ok, it looks like they are still undercutting nvidia and AMD out of necessity. I'm almost willing to bet the cost of the B580 for ibtel is higher than the 7600 and the 4060.

Anyways huge congrats are due to Intel's GPU team, they made a nice chip with Battlemage and are proving Alchemist laid out a good groundwork from where they can build.

There are still a few sharp edges that makes it so I wouldn't recommend to non enthusiasts who're ok with getting cut. But by the rate of improvement, maybe 2025 or 2026 is the year of Xe2 Desktop.

These are some not so surprising numbers, when you extrapolate to the results windows reviewers are showing, you can see that there is a lot left on the table for driver optimizations, and perhaps in general more games would have different results.

for the price though? The card is gonna sell, maybe not so much to the linux market aside from people looking to escape both AMD's and Nvidia's shenaigans. I'm not in the market for a new gpu, but if I was, this would be a solid holiday buy.
