Intel Spots A 3888.9% Performance Improvement In The Linux Kernel From One Line Of Code
I find it interesting and news worthy.
Should I have THP on or off? Maybe this tips the scales?
I'm not saying he shouldn't report about it. I'm saying he should do so in a professional manner without insulting the intelligence of his readers or mislead the ones who don't understand the details.
Only if you're new to Phoronix.
On one hand, there's only so much you can say in a title before it turns into a paragraph. On the other hand, people don't exactly throw money at Michael, so can you really blame him? Me, having been here for a while, I know exactly what to expect when I see a title like that.
True, but once in a while, the reported numbers actually have some truths to them so I still skim the articles.
The issue I see with things like that is that people belive their system will now be 3888.9% times faster. No that is not what that means. It means some specific task inside the kernel will now be 3888.9% times faster and it has to show if that will make the kernel actually messurably faster.
I'm running a patched kernel now, and my computer is a full 3889.9% faster. Amazing work done here for real.

Yeah, that's the problem with clickbait titles. I suppose we'll ultimately be vaccinated against that silly practice.
