Phoronix: Intel Publishes Updated CPU Microcode For A Variety Of Security & Functional Issues

Would be nice to have a plug for the voltage overkill on the CPUs though.
Wonder how many errors people will see over the years related to this?

Also feels like a fsckup was bound to happen, sooner or later.
Intel CPUs have been definitely been burning the candle at both ends for generations now.

Wow, they are releaseing microcode updates quite often now. Just the one that is supposed to fix anything with the corrosion and voltage spikes (and no code can fix already broken hardware) and now another wave of microcode updates? Looking forward to benchmarks, of course.

And hoping to see something in conjunction with the AMD ring 0 to ring -2 (SMM) possible privilege escalation.

As I once said after Meltdown was out: Intel drove the race without helmet, seat belt and brakes. And on the long term that wasn't too clever.

Stop TCPA, stupid software patents and corrupt politicians!

This has been fixed in EPYC microcode since 2024-05-03, so testing it would require downgrading microcode which might be complicated or even impossible.

Consumer platforms do not yet have a fix available, which is something AMD has been doing for quite some time now. It's a terrible security practice.
