This is a coup for Intel. Gregg literally wrote the book on performance optimization, and I was wondering where he’d end up after his announcement last week that he was leaving Netflix.
Not necessarily... Gregg worked on BSDs at Netflix since at Netflix they are well known for their BSD server usage. He is quite experienced on the BSDs etc but no indication that Intel is having him work on any BSD support initiatives at Intel. So we'll see.

Plus I've read that the BSD usage @ Netflix is overrated, with Linux still picking up & carrying most of the slack over there...
It will be interesting to see if his work will be related to the performance of SVT-AV1 (or video in general) on intel cpus and gpus going forward, especially considering that both intel and netflix are involved in AV1. Having a scalable / performant AV1 encoder running as efficiently as possible on linux encoding farms will be an interesting prospect.
Brendan Gregg is best known for its work on Solaris, Opensolaris and illumos.
Linux things are latest add-on to he's life opus.
Not mentioning from what OSes ZFS and Dtrace came is a huge omission.
