    What does this change in practice? GPU can power down to a lower power state when it is idle and displays are off?

      Isn't the i915 driver deprecated in favor of the X modesetting driver?

        i915 is the name in this context to their kernel mode-setting driver. Intel's X.Org (deprecated) driver name anyhow is xf86-video-intel
