Phoronix: Intel AMX Support Continues Being Prepped For The Linux Kernel

Intel engineers have been publishing open-source/Linux enablement patches around Advanced Matrix Extensions (AMX) for nearly one year now. While Intel Xeon "Sapphire Rapids" with AMX support is expected around the end of this year, one of the key pieces yet to land is the Linux kernel support...

This looks really promising. Can anyone give theoretical speedups by usinu AMX? Double or quadruple performance for Matrix solving?

It doesn't do what you think. Maybe in some future iteration, but v1 is very focused on the specific use case of small, low-precision, non-separable convolutions. In other words, it's aimed at CNNs designed for processing images & video. I guess it can also do 1D convolutions, IIRC.

As for speedups, it could be huge. On certain neural networks, we could see near GPU performance levels.
