Is pushing ROCm understandable in your eyes? Maybe over time they will be back in the Khronos camp embracing SYCL 2020 - if they acquire Xilinx, I could think that this would be a better and broader foundation for heterogenious compute than ROCm is today.

And with openCL 4 they should be able to extend it all the way back to the 286. This is a real triumph of marketing over reality. Orwell would be proud.

I had a feeling intel would push hard on the linux opencl/software front.
This is exciting. If intel released a competitive discrete gpu, i'd seriously consider it.
