Intel has previously indicated they plan for their new "Iris" Gallium3D driver to become their default OpenGL driver for Linux by EOY 2019 as far as Broadwell graphics and newer are concerned. This is great, I've been carrying a patch around to allow an Iris only build (i.e. without i965 and classic being built) hopefully more folk will start testing Iris now

Building iris without i965 (or any classic infrastructure) is supported in upstream:
