Phoronix: Intel's Clear Linux Ups Their Desktop Offering, Rolling Out New Installer

For those that may have been wanting to try out Clear Linux of Intel's Open-Source Technology Center on desktops/workstation, it's now easier to do thanks to a new "desktop live" image accompanied by a new OS installer to make it more akin to conventional desktop Linux distributions...

It's about time. While a more robust and modern looking GUI would be preferable, it should not be a requirement to use commands to do an install. Simple visual cues go a long way.

The people spoke, Intel is responding.

If they can keep up the performance gains while adding the new front end, it will resonate with more early adopters.

What's the package ecosystem like? I guess you don't have the breadth that something like AUR offers? If you use flatpak or similar, these miss out on any perf advantages as well?

          Right now its is limited.

Intel prefers a bundle approach to maintain consistency with their release cadence. This makes sense for an OS built strictly for cloud use.

But they will have to update their objectives and tools if they want to reach a broader ecosystem beyond cloud.

The live beta image I extracted is 8 gigs. Is that correct?

Boots, though. Then the installer crashes.

is there any witchcraft it does besides their kernel config+patches and aggressive build flags for everything? where does that huge margin in benchs come from? do they use a custom compiler?
