This reflects very badly on the Linux kernel and the Linux community. The fact that a competing IHV gets penalized for another company's vulnerability...

at best it just looks incompetent, at worst conspiracy theories...

Right now, they are just rushing to patch everything, and later they will do it right. Yeah, I've heard that before. Except rushed work never gets corrected well.

It appears that Brian Krzanich (Intel's CEO) sold every share he legally could in 29 November:

Right after the news about the hardware bug went global, the author of that article went off the grid. (Removed himself from social media due to "personal issues" 10 hours ago.)

          Holy crap.

Well there is always a chance that some kernel developer with approving rights will come to his/her senses.

            Kind regards

At least some revision of the patch mentions a Ryzen bug that needs to be mitigated by the PTI patch as well:

This does not seem to be part of PTI. The code is in rc5, just the text was updated with info that it also helps with Ryzen bug.
To me it looks like another Intel bug that got fixed for all x86 CPUs, regardless if they were affected, and later found it helps also with Ryzen.
Who know how many of such bug fixes are there.

That's the kill ryzen bug they had at launch.

Guy's playing with fire. If the two things appear to be connected, this would be insider trading.
