Phoronix: Trying To Benchmark The MIPS Creator CI20 With Debian Linux

Last year Imagination launched a MIPS development board that went on sale at the end of last year. In not seeing any significant benchmarks or performance coverage from this MIPS Creator CI20 over the past few months, I finally got around to buying one of these MIPS development boards from Imagination Technology. While the CI20 seemed promising at first, so far I'm very unhappy with this board and it's been even less stable than the Imagination PowerVR drivers on Linux going back to the Poulsbo days.

Shoot http://www.alexvoica.com/ a message he is there for the pr work, he is really trying in a complicated environment. You would've probably gotten the board for free. If you want send him greetings from me, maybe he remembers.

edit: it seems that some CI120 have problems with faulty memory. Try to install memtester and run it on the whole memory, if you get errors RMA it.

Sad that you cannot run any benchmarks in this board, i was curious too in how it performs. But this problems aren't normal, maybe you was just unlucky and got a bad board (those corruptions in the photos may be because of RAM defects). Try to contact the manufacturer and RMA it.

Edit: Check this about RAM problems: http://elinux.org/CI20_Distros#Buildroot

      Regards from Brazil,

If I had to guess, I'd say the power source is the problem. I'm not sure what you've got connected for USB devices, and I'm not sure what you've got for a power source, but try feeding it more amps.

Didn't realize he was handling PR for the CI20 too. Alex introduced himself to me recently. Have contacted him now to see if he has any insights on the matter.

People are already prone to hate on anything imagination is involved with. This certainly doesn't help things. While I don't mind alex, I think he's in a bad position trying to defend some pretty continuously indefensible behavior on the part of his employer.

I was also curious about this board when it came out. Glad I didn't buy it.

Me too, although when they bring out one with their newest 64bit cores, lots of RAM and with decent documentation, I'll definitely get one.

Alex told me to RMA it... Hoping it was going to be an easier fix or something that I just overlooked.
