  • Corsair Memory Question on ASUS MB

    Hello

I'm building a new PC for use with Open Suse, the motherboard is going to be an ASUS x99 Deluxe, the CPU is an i/ 5939, from all builds and comments that I've read so far there are 3 main choices for the RAM:

    Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4
    G.Skill Ripjaw DDR4
    Crucial Micron DDR4

The Corsair brand is also recommended over G.Skill and Crucial, the kit I plan to buy however is listed at 2 speeds/latency: 2400 and 2666, like this:

    KIT #1

    Technical Specifications
    Density: 32GB (4x8GB)
    Speed: 2400MHz
    Tested Latency: 14-16-16-31
    Voltage: 1.2V
    Format: Unbuffered DIMM
    Pin Out: 288 Pin
    Intel XMP 2.0
    Heatspreader: Anodized Aluminum

    KIT #2

    Technical Specifications
    Density: 32GB (4x8GB)
    Speed: 2666MHz
    Tested Latency: 15-17-17-35
    Voltage: 1.2V
    Format: Unbuffered DIMM
    Pin Out: 288 Pin
    Intel XMP 2.0
    Heatspreader: Anodized Aluminum

    KIT #3

    Technical Specifications
    Density: 32GB (4x8GB)
    Speed: 2666MHz
    Tested Latency: 16-18-18-35
    Voltage: 1.2V
    Format: Unbuffered DIMM
    Pin Out: 288 Pin
    Intel XMP 2.0
    Heatspreader: Anodized Aluminum

At the moment, I have no intention of overcloaking but I don't discarded either, the difference in the 3 kits is the latency and speed, therefore which of the kits is the best match for the motherboard/CPU combination ?

I'm aware that the ram will default to 2133 until I enable XMP.2 on the motherboard.

    Thank you.

Given the three choices I would personally choose #2.

Though I have no experience with your configuration, so I don't really know. Generally speaking RAM speed is a compromize between latency and bandwidth. Coose the highest bandwidth with the lowest latency as a general rule of thumb.
