A "supercomputer" is only a linear multiple of whatever is available at the time. As time progresses, performance increases exponentially.

Moore's law preducts transistor count doubling ever two years, which silently implies a more than doubling of performance within the same period.

You start with 1 dollar in 1980, and double it every two years, so double it 16 times. By now you've accumulated $65536.00.
Was a CRAY supercomputer 65536 times the performance level of, for example, an intel 80186? Probably not...

Indeed. Customers don't care even tho millions of them have bought iPads, developers don't care even tho they are writing hundreds of thousands of apps for the iOS ecosystem, accessory manufacturers don't care even tho they make lots of money supplying accessories for iPads. No one seems to care about this device that is making billions for Apple and millions for other companies and developers in the ecosystem!

The biggest problem with Linux and its ecosystem is people wasting time complaining about Microsoft and Apple and announcing that Linux *IS* better than Windows and OSX, while Microsoft and Apple work to actually make their solutions better. OSX is a huge threat to Linux on the desktop because its Unix underpinnings make it very easy to use OSS where you want, and use Apple native apps where they are a better fit. Lots of open source developers and advocates (me including) are using OSX for a desktop solution. Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8 are going to make it difficult for Linux to grow in the data center and in corporate desktops. Windows is already growing faster in more corporate data centers than Linux, and eventually Linux will eat up the legacy Unix and need to fight Windows head to head. That will not be pleasant. If all these people who complain put their energy into improving Linux and open source instead, Linux might actually *BE* better. There is alot of work to do.

Or we can keep forking desktop environments and music players and declaring victory where it does not exist.

Meaning if you bogged Cray2 down with the same crap Apple software that constantly makes its way onto the iFad2 ARM platform it would run out of memory and quit to the homescreen constantly too. Not even Cray2 would be good enough to run Apple crap correctly.

The irony of your completely unqualified statement is that performance tests on this very website show that the latest OSX offering is at least as fast at the Ubuntu and Fedora's latest releases on average. So how exactly is it crap software? If it is, then Linux is equivalently terrible.

In proper benchmarks Linux eat that shit for breakfast. However, crApple fanboys prefer to ea apple propaganda. os x is even more broken than windows. They are more popular than Linux mainly, because of available software. This is goinp to change.
