Phoronix: Intel Core Ultra 7 "Lunar Lake" Performance Up By ~22% With ASUS Linux Fix

Following the ASUS AIPT patch posting this weekend from an Intel Linux engineer that was analyzing my previously-published Lunar Lake results showing rather poor performance on the ASUS Zenbook S 14, the performance has been looking much better. On Monday I posted updated Intel Xe2 graphics results showing strong uplift now that the ASUS Lunar Lake laptop was operating in its standard mode rather than whisper mode. In today's article is data from more than 400 CPU/system benchmarks to see how the Core Ultra 7 256V performance has improved with this new Linux kernel patch and compared to the prior AMD Ryzen and Intel Core laptop comparison data.

Intel fixed the power efficiency advantage they had. From cooler and slower, their cpu is improved to hotter and slower. 4D chess move!

Let me summarize the graphics for everyone:
average wattage went from 11.8W to 19.9W (67% increase).
geometric mean perf went from 32.7 to 39.8 (22% increase).
      More like a Pentium4/D move. :-D

So are you telling me that a CPU is more efficient in battery mode than in performance mode? Wow... that's awesome!

This reminds me how balanced powerplan in Windows gives better performance

high performance plan will lower performance. microsoft have sense of humor

The thing that no one wants to talk about is that the Intel laptops can be found for about $600 while the AMD laptops cost 2-3 times as much.

Not for Lunar Lake... This ASUS Zenbook S 14 ended up being tied for the cheapest I could find at launch at $1400 + taxes/etc. The Ryzen AI 9 365 via the ASUS Zenbook S 16 was basically the same price.

Link please. I've only seen similarly priced ones.

The Meteor Lake, Alder Lake and Tiger Lake laptops can be found for well under a grand, often with discrete NVIDIA GPU and decent amounts of ram and storage.

Give the Lunar Lakes 6 months and they will come down to the same levels.

I saw a 14C Alder Lake with RTX 3050 for $400 on Staples website a couple of days ago.

Planning on replacing my aging Ice Lake laptop this Christmas.

But we were talking about the current generation.
The cheapest AMD laptop I can find costs sub 300$ (Ryzen 7000 based) (https://www.amazon.com/-/dp/B0BS4BP8FB/)
The cheapest AMD laptop which is Ryzen 8000 based is sub 600$ (https://www.amazon.com/-/dp/B0DCGMLNL4/).
                    So what is your point?
