I think the declining values is more because Apple products are no longer repairable/upgradable. Thus SSD flash chips are irretrievably wearing out. The average techie can't replace surface mounted components (SMDs). I don't want a used Apple anything because I really don't know how long those storage chips have left. It could be years from just light use, or months from serious abuse. Take it from someone familiar with the new hardware. Don't buy used Apple beyond the point where they started soldering everything to the main board unless you have a surface mount repair station and the expertise to use it.

Although I have a Mini for arm64 development. I'd still prefer to support a vendor that isn't completely closed and undocumented.

If you have one (doubt that you would get them used, and cheap) and want to try it out, I have published some bootable images for the dev kit that bring up a preinstalled Ubuntu desktop. The newer ones like Ubuntu_Desktop_24.04_x1e_6.11rc_v6.img.xz are also bootable on some X1 laptops. Development is done in this repo, some information can be found in the discussions and wiki. Working on documenting more.

In this paragraph the second year should be 2024, right?

Compared to miniPCs in general, it's still pretty expensive. About twice the price of the equivalent in x86_64, I'd say (at least for the cheaper Mac mini).
