Phoronix: SiFive Announces P870-D For Up To 256 RISC-V Cores

SiFive today lifted the lid on the P870-D, its new RISC-V processor dor data center and AI workloads. The P870-D is designed to scale up to 256 cores while supporting modern features like CXL and other AI/HPC minded features...

Now this sounds pretty exciting! I would like to see some benchmarks, hopefully soon.

      P870-D sounds like a Tesla.
Well, maybe something interesting will come from this, but so far, RISC-V is reminding me very much of ARM. A few boards here and there are announced, none of them have quite enough features to be of much use to me, they are very expensive, and you can't actually buy them anyway.

At this point I don't even care anymore. I want to hear them announce a CPU socket. That's the big groundbreaking shocking news that we don't see.

Otherwise, this is clearly something for servers that I'll never use, it's for embedded that I'll never use, or some cut down version will be for iot that I'll never use. How can I get excited about something that's not for here in my home at my desk. Bizarre.

The world doesn't revolve around you to satisfy your personal excitement.

Is it just me or is RISC-V losing momentum?

Feels like the "THAT is the next big thing for sure!" energy is gone.

Um, wow, some real typos in that post.

But good news, hopefully these new cores go up in performance. And hopefully some more security researches dig into them, and help show these core designers ways to design things securely, and still aim for increasing performance.

                ???

We’re excited to share a preview of a Framework Laptop 13 Mainboard with a new CPU architecture.

Please antminer, let us actually get some this time. Say no to your local crypto/AI bros.

that's probably because it's no longer the "next big thing" but it the current thing. there is massive amounts of new riscv hardware coming. It's momentum is probably at quite a high right now.

Really tired of SiFive paper launches.
If you don't even have a demonstrator SoC, your product is fake.
