I'm a little surprised negatives weren't working, but moreso, I'm surprised about how many people think it's weird to encounter negatives. While I wouldn't say it's common for a CPU to report such temperatures, even a typical home user might encounter it. For example they were to turn on a laptop that was left in sub-freezing conditions (like being left inside a car) for a while.

Doesn't look like it's going too smoothly with this patch:
