Innovative? Developers used this technique during the 68000 days, back when it only had 24-bit physical addressing. This led to many problems when the 68020 came out with 32-bit addressing (the processor lacked address masking though).

Of course this won't be too much of a problem nowadays unless we start requiring 64-bit addressing (and processors with the capability arrive)...
