Phoronix: AMD Posts Linux Audio Driver For The "Pink Sardine"

The colorful fishy codenames are not over for AMD's Linux driver crew! While on the GPU side they have moved to IP block-by-block enablement strategy for their future GPUs, over on the audio co-processor side AMD posted a series of patches today under the "Pink Sardine" codename...

          What is an "IP block"?

And how should one interpret something like sdma_5_2_7.bin or gc_10_3_7_me.bin in regards to what GPUs are going to be using it?

At least previous naming made sense.

"Intellectual Property" block. They're doing the same thing Intel is doing with their CPUs, and Nvidia is doing with their GPU packages. Ship everything in a disabled state then use signed enablement images that activate the parts you paid for. They're forgetting one of the reasons why people buy AMD to begin with. AMD is getting mired in the bean counter quagmire of customer hostile anti-features. I hope the RISC-V steering committee is paying attention to this kind of thing and moves to head it off before it gets started in that space.

It depends, are you referring to red herring, LGTBQI+ sardine, or pink sardine?
                We must be precise here.
