But which country is at war with what country? It's got nothing to do with software, never has, and certainly shouldn't start now.
This has nothing to do with "politics"; it has to do with "morality". Morality has to do with software.. and every single other thing done by human beings. I wouldn't want to be a part of anything that claimed it was divorced from morality.

The United States attacked a country that harbored a terrorist group that killed over 2000 American civilians and then declined to turn the terrorists over to them. The Taliban were/are also a horribly brutal regime that normalized torture, execution, religious, gender and sexual orientation persecution. The struggled for 20 years to try to build and maintain a democratic government there. Then they abandoned them, but that's another story....

If the United States ever invades Canada because it wants the maple syrup, then feel free to bring this point up again.

It was a direct response to 9/11

PS. Serbs got bombed because they were genociding people, they deserved every bomb they got.
So where was your support of Russia when they saved Obhasia from genocide? Russia came, kicked ass of Georgia, did not annex a shit, left and Obhasians thanked them for it. But all US and EU were chewing Russia for breakfast for it.
Please stop being so righteous and see history of post USSR.
Anyone who NATO does like - is a separatist, everyone they support is a freedom fighter. And NATO peace keepers peacefully bomb others.
"Afghanistan was invaded because the Taliban allowed al-Qaeda to shelter/train there. It was a direct response to 9/11" so were Saudis, and yet their assholes have not lost any hair? Why do you hate their culture? Are you antimuslim racist?

Listen i can play with words forever. Point is, stop being self righteous. I believe this was should not have happened. I wish it did not. But can hysteria please end? Hope war will be fast so People of Ukraine and Russia can have some semblance of normality.

"The coalition of the willing (not NATO, btw, don't get it wrong)" - i have gang of 10 people. We all 10 agreed, one of us gets kicked we all fight back. Now 3 of us attractively kick neighbour's ass cause we can. We have our own gang of 3. But it doesn't stop us from being gang of defensive 10. So we pass by home of another neighbor. We are Looking at it. At him. We know we will visit home soon. So does he. Let him attack us 3. I dare him.

I have always believed that OpenSource is out of politics and created for the joint development of software by people united by common ideas.
But what I see now upsets me, open software is becoming a tool for politicians to steal and belittle the work and contribution of people, which, for some political reasons, must be declared as universal evil.
Open-source software developers may be excellent computer scientists, but they do not understand how people in other countries live and why they live like that. But at the same time, they are taken to judge, with their concepts only of their own country, without delving into the culture of another country. Here's the thing, your vision is limited by the fact that you know only 1 language (the one you communicate in), and as a result, you are forced to read only what the sources you trust have presented to you. Because of this, you can not refer to the original source penetrated into the essence of the issue.

The current situation began to escalate in the world of the open community at the suggestion of just some (not all) Ukrainian developers who started a campaign against all Russian people. And most importantly, to distort the facts in a direction convenient for them, so that foreign colleagues, by virtue of their tolerance, assist them in harassing them.

Above in the topic, dimko described the main sources of the conflict, so I have no point in repeating them. I have the only request to all those discussing, first study the source (History of the Slavic peoples for a start) and then the history of 1991(when the Soviet Union collapsed), when for political reasons, ONE people was divided into 3 states at the request of politicians.

Russian people have never tried to teach and impose their ideas and values on the West. But somehow, according to history, it turned out that the West came to us every 100 years and tried to impose its values. And now, through the info field, they are trying to cancel us and expose us as evil.

The fact that you cannot find information on Elbrus is because all the material is in Russian language, and it is full of it for those who are interested in this architecture. But see what's the matter, no one wants to learn Russian language, you are waiting for someone to translate for you into English.

          P.S
I am against wars and I believe that open source software should stay out of politics.

They chose to put a bad person as president and allowed him to invade another country and kill a lot of innocent people.
            Fuck Russia's war!
Are you talking about all the zillion wars that the US have created?
            Because it sounds like that..
Will AMD and Intel be dropped too because all the wars US have created?

This may very well can be the end of open-source as we know it..

It's a little weird to bring up Afghanistan, as if the USSR didn't have an even worse history there (or in Chechnya, for that matter, where Putin really made his reputation).
"That was a regrettable misjudgement, but hopefully one we can learn from." - yep, yet no one was blockading you.
"or in Chechnya," - now Checken soldiers, probably most experienced and best overall soldiers of Russian army are in Ukraine. Funny how bad Russia is to Chechnya that they fight for it.

In the 19th and 20th Centuries, there were examples of this throughout the colonized world. There will always be some who, for various reasons, are willing to fight for their foreign occupiers. It doesn't mean the occupation is legitimate or just.

And there are examples of EU and US calling people who fight for independence, who are not convenient to them, separatists, and who convenient, freedom fighters.
Point is, learn about history of ukrain from perspective of Russian Ukrainian, or better yet, from some one from Crimea. You will have some food for thoughts.

I can only tell the world was less global those days. Our family didn't travel by plane (we didn't even have passports or international credit cards). I didn't have internet access at home in 1990s. Newspapers didn't write much about foreign politics. The regional newspaper had like 1-2 pages worth of content about the state of the whole world. Now compare that to 2022. I can't easily find any place where the (social) media doesn't cover this topic. Even when browsing porn or cat pictures, you'll encounter pics of slaughtered people, explosions, and tanks. Kids who just started going to school last fall wonder if the bodies in Tiktok videos are really dead.

Or Obhasians were genocided by Georgians? Or when Afghanistan was fucked."weapon of mass destruction". Why no one was suggesting to cut off America or UK off the internet, banking systems, etc etc? Stop being self righteous. I am sick of that.
Let's be honest, most people consider those to be ultimate shit hole countries. Low GDP, you rarely see tourism originating from those countries, the people look ugly and poor, don't have cell phones or computers. Really hard to relate to anyone living on the other side of the globe. Due to all these conflicts it's not even safe to travel there. I could imagine Georgia attending the Eurovision song contest, but I don't watch television, barely know some ABBAs songs from 1970s.

They just took the messaging from NATO's actions against Serbia and superimposed it on Georgia. That doesn't make it true.

As for why they didn't manufacture an independence referendum, like they did in Crimea, I guess they hadn't yet become so bold.

Yes, Saudi Arabia has extremists, but that is a problem they "manage". The US has relations with Saudi Arabia going back a long ways, and I suppose the judgment was that the Saudi's were better-positioned to manage their own extremists, whereas if the US tried to do anything, it would create blow-back far worse than the original problem. At least, that's my read on the situation.

I can't really defend the US relationship with Saudi Arabia, to be honest. It's always been problematic, even long before MBS.

IMO, the best way to deal with the Saudi's is the same as how we should deal with Putin and climate change, and that's to transition off fossil fuels as fast as absolutely possible. These petty tyrants are nothing without their extractive industries. Oil wealth is what lets them punch above their weight.

If you truly wish the best for Ukrainians, then hope for a ceasefire. Otherwise, there won't be much left of Ukraine.

Did NATO get involved in any of Turkey's conflicts? No. So, it's not that automatic.
