Qualcomm only announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and X65 platforms at the end of November but already they have managed to provide timely mainline support for these latest high-end SoCs. This is great to see compared to the days of slow to materialize mainline support for new Arm SoCs, which still persists among some vendors with either belated mainline support or only focusing on vendor downstream kernels. The big batch of Arm SoC/platform changes have landed for Linux 5.17...

So does only cover the "CPU" part of the SoC, as-in you can boot linux and login with some serial-cable based console?
Or does it also include the bits to light up the phone's screen (including touch support), usb, wifi, bluetooth, audio and gpu acceleration? (e.g. being able to run a full Linux distro on your phone)
The drivers for the latter components are usually hidden in binary blobs only being compatible with the Android OS.

Every time I read here something like "support for XXXX SoC", it means:

• CPU frequency scaling is not working
• Audio is not working
• GPU is not working
• Basic display is not working
• USB is not working
• PCIe is not working
• Storage is not working
• Camera is not working
• WiFi is not working
• Modem is not working
• [...]

• But serial port is working (yeaaah)

"dmesg" then shows catastrophic failures everywhere, explaining why nothing works.

This is not enough to call it a "supported" SoC.

From the previous years of announcements here about "Qualcomm SoC support" things, I guess nothing more can be expected from this new announcement. From the previous ones, at least, every expectations about having a "working SoC" turned into huge disappointments.
